Spring Term 2025-26

Fun in the Snow - First day back after Christmas

We had a brilliant time in the snow on our first day back after the Christmas break! We got to build some snowmen with our friends.
Art - Spring 1 - Colour Magic

In Art this half term, we are working with paints and mixed medias. We have started our learning off by recapping primary and secondary colours and how we can mix them. This week we have been looking at how to make different textures when using paints. We used different materials such as tin foil, cotton buds, cardboard, forks and sponges as well as brus and our fingers.
Art - Making Textures

In Art this week, we started to think about how we can create a collage picture. We started by making lots of different texture pieces so that we can use them to tear and rip to create our picture. We loved seeing how the different items made different types of textures.
History - Florence Nightingale

In History this half term, we have been learning about Florence Nightingale and how she helped transform nursing and hospitals as we know them today. This week we have learning about how she was known as the Lady of the lamp because she helped take care of the soldiers during the night. To help us remember we created our own Turkish lamps!
Science - Living things and their habitats

In Science this half term, we have been starting to learn about living things and their habitats. We looked at different animals last week and whether they were carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. This week we looked at whether things in our environment are living, non-living or never alive. We worked collaboratively and looked in our school grounds.
Making our Christingles with Rev Rich

We made our Christingles with Rev Rich this week ready for our Candlemas service on Tuesday. We have great knowledge about what each part of the Christingle represents!

Our Christingle Service

We held our lovely Christingle for Candlemas service today in church. The children all sang beautifully and the church looked amazing lit up with our Christingles!

National Story Telling Week

We have celebrated National storytelling week this week and lots of lovely visitors have been into our class to read some fabulous stories with us. We have particularly enjoyed the Rabbit and Bear series!

Computing - Spring 2

This half term, we were very lucky to be able to have a loan of some ozo bots to help with our programming unit. We were able to think about the different commands we could give the ozo bots to move them from one place to another. We also completed some challenges such as getting the ozo bots to manoeuvre around a book, a chair and a table leg. We then created some of our own buildings to give instructions to our ozo bot to move into.

Geography - Spring 2

In Geography this half term, we have been elanring about Antarctica and why penguins don't need to fly. We learned lots of interesting facts about Antarctica and then compared it to the Arctic. We know that penguins have many different features that enable them to live in the habitat of Antarctica such as waterproof feathers which also help to keep them warm.

Maths -Spring 2

In Maths this week, we have been building our knowledge of multiplication and division in year 2 and capacity and mass in year 1. We enjoyed using the different practical resources to think about the concept we are learning before moving on to answer questions. Year 1 enjoyed using the balance scales to weigh different items where as year 2 enjoyed using cubes, counters and base 10 to work out different multiplication and division sums.

PSHE - Spring 2

In PSHE this half term, we have been thinking about the environment and in particular taking part in the RSPB bird watch. We thought carefully about how we can look after our wonderful environment as well as animals that are becoming extinct. We worked together with our partners to monitor the different types of birds we coulld see in our school grounds.

Music - Spring 2

In Music this half term, we have been exoanding our knowledge of musical notes. We were able to use different instruments such as steel pans and glockenspiels to create some music of our own. We thought about the rhythm and dynamics to help us compose our music.

DT - Spring 2

In DT this half term we have been thinking about cooking and nutrition and in particular, a balanced diet. We have explored the different food groups that we need in order for our diet to be balanced as well as how much of each we need. We then created our very own wraps and thought carefully about the ingredients we used in them. We practised skills such as cutting, snipping, spreading and grating.

RE - Spring 2

In RE this half term, we have been learning about the Easter story and why it is important to Christians. We expanded our knowledge of this very important story but also thought about ways in which we celebrate Easter today. We looked at the key events of Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We made our own Easter eggs out of paper mache and even got to eat some hot cross buns!

Science - Spring Term

In Science this term, we ahve been learning about living things and their habitats. We explored what living things are and what types of habitats they need. We looked at micro-habitats and created our own in our forest school area. We even had a worm make it's way into the one of our creations.

Saying Goodbye to Mrs Arkle

This week we said a very special goodbye to our wonderful cook Mrs Arkle. She has worked in our school for 35 years and provided us and many others with some delicious lunchtime meals. Mrs Arkle was the best at providing us with such great memories as well as keeping us all fed and healthy. We hope she has the best... albiet, VERY early retirement. She gave the children such a wonderful disco to end our Spring term.
