Autumn Term 2026-27

Welcome to Class 1

We are a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class, taught by Miss Clements.

Mrs Athey and Mrs Chisholm will cover any PPA/ECT time (teaching Art/PE in Autumn 1).

We aim to provide a nurturing, supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential. In Class 1, we encourage the children to embrace new challenges, become increasingly independent and grow in confidence as they develop their skills and knowledge throughout Key Stage 1.

Please check this page regularly for updates, news and information about what we have been learning in Class 1.

Grace Darling Museum Trip Letter

Our Trips (Autumn 1)

What a brilliant day we had visiting the Grace Darling Museum. Class 1 had the opportunity to dress up, retell the Grace Darling story and explore the museum. This was a brilliant opportunity to solidify what we have been learning in our history lessons. We also had the opportunity to visit her resting place and reflect on a remarkable story. All of Class 1 showed great enthusiasm and were fantastic throughout the whole day. We are incredibly proud!

Class 1 and Early Years had a brilliant opportunity to go to Alniwick Playhouse and watch a production of 'Hay'. It was brilliant. We thought the lighting and effects were amazing. It made us all really laugh too! What a lovely morning.

Our Learning (Autumn 1)

At the start of half term, we explored the idea that the bible tells one big story. We learned about the 7 parts of the Big Frieze and discussed different Bible stories. We worked together to place these familiar Bible stories onto the correct part of the timeline. We then discussed how we can play our part by being kind, collaborative and courageous. This half term, we are focusing on the creation section of The Big Frieze. The Creation Story. We had lots of fun exploring the natural world on our nature walk. Thinking about what we could see, smell, touch and hear!

We have been looking at different animals in Science. We have explored the different animal groups and learned about their key features such as fins, gills, feathers, beaks, wings, etc. We have then used this terminology to work together in pairs to describe different animals without naming them. We challenged our partner to listen to the clues carefully and then draw the animal they thought it was.

In our English lessons, we have worked really hard to develop our letter formation and handwriting. We started the year by exploring labels, lists and captions, while practising how to punctuate our sentences correctly using capital letters and full stops. We have also been developing our sentences by using conjunctions to join our sentences together and make our writing more interesting. More recently, we have begun to explore instructions to help Miss Clements make a jam sandwich, thinking carefully about the order of each step and why clear instructions are so important!
We have been building on our number knowledge from Reception. Ordering, writing and counting numbers to 20. We have been working really hard on our number bonds to 10 and writing simple number sentences. We have also been working super hard on understanding part-whole models. We even made big part-whole models out of hula hoops to help us!
In Year 2, we have been working super hard to identify, represent and estimate numbers to 100 this half term. We have been brilliant at using our part-whole models to partition big numbers to 100. We have also been working really hard on our number formation and writing numerals as words.
