Forest Schools

Intent:

Our Forest School Leaders will ensure the children are covering skills and concepts in a sequential and progressive way We aim to develop their skills through a variety of activities and experiences. We will ensure children have the opportunity to use and develop these skills throughout the lessons.

Implementation:

We will structure lessons so that prior learning and revision of key skills are continuously built upon.

We will ensure key skills and techniques are introduced and used with lessons.

Impact:

We want children to develop a love of being outdoors.

We will measure the impact of learning through assessing their development of key skills.

Our Forest Schools Ethos

At Whittingham C of E Primary School we value a holistic approach to education which is advocated through our Forest Schools provision.

Forest School is an inspirational education approach to learning.  Learning outdoors allows the children the time and space to initiate their own learning.

At Forest School children develop through regular experiences in the outdoors developing the child as a whole. The children are encouraged to take appropriate risks as part of their holistic development gaining a range of knowledge, skills and positive attitudes which will benefit all aspects of their lives. Through regular practical activities, children develop in such areas as resilience, confidence, self-esteem, imagination and independence.

Forest School allows the child to develop resilience, problem solving, communication skills and team work using a range of tools, explore, investigate, assess risks.

It is the adult’s role to lead by example, observing the child initiated learning and develop and further possibilities. Forest school allows the opportunity for children to access their learning potential.

During the School Year 2022-3 we intend to develop our ethos and provision into a written policy to formalise and celebrate the good practice that is currently in place from which can be built upon as new staff train and become accredited.
