Class 3 (Years 5 & 6) 2025-26

Welcome to Class 3
Our class includes Years 5 and 6 and is taught by Mr Charlton (Deputy Headteacher). We also have Mrs Chisholm on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons to teach us PE and art/ DT. On this page of our school website, you will find a sample of some of the learning and events that we have taken part in during this academic year.
Art
Drawing : Making my voice heard.

We have been collecting information to identify the key features of Mayan art and exploring mark making using a range of handmade tools. We researched  our ancient spirit companion which is based on our date of birth that then related to our personality and character traits. We have also been looking at different artist and how they were inspired from accident and modern art.  We generated patterns, colour and symbols in our art work that represented our personalities.
Our football festival was a fun and energetic event that brought together pupils from Swarland, Belford and Hipsburn Primary schools for a friendly competitive afternoon. Children showed great enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and skill as they played a series of matches. The festival celebrated participation and team work while building new friendships creating a sense of community for all the children.
A huge thank you to Ben and Jamie from DCHS sports leaders who helped referee some matches.
November
Rugby

We are enjoying learning new rugby skills with Amy from Newcastle Red Bulls
Design & Technology

We have been learning about the features of different types of bridges in Design Technology, including arch, beam, and truss bridges. We carried out experiments to explore which types of bridges are strongest using card for our designs. We then created a prototype using spaghetti, focusing on building an accurate and well-constructed truss bridge.
Christmas Wish

We began our festivities in school with the wonderful Mrs Arkle, who makes us a delicious Christmas pudding. We each took a turn mixing the pudding while making our own special wish.
Remembrance
Our pupils took part in a range of Remembrance Day activities, reflecting on the importance of honouring those who have served and sacrificed. Through thoughtful discussions, creative work, and moments of silence, we came together as a school community to remember.
