Have a think about a time you have swapped things with other people, can you remember a time someone swapped with you and then changed their mind? Did it cause problems?

 

Write 1 or 2 short recount sentences about a time you swapped something and the problem it might have caused. Try to use first person and past tense.

 

Think about the illustrations – they’re in an unusual style, what do you like about them? What do they add to the book?

 

Think about the pros and cons of swapping things and write some down.

 

Task:  Your task is to imagine you have lost something precious to you. You are going to make a lost poster and write a short description of the item, using adjectives, commas and clauses.

 

Extension:  When you have finished you can copy or type your notice up and include an illustration or picture of the object.

Lesson objective: I can describe why, where and when the Scots and Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain, describe key historical characters from the time and explain what the 7 Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms were.
 
Read through the PowerPoint and learn about some of the Scots and Anglo-Saxons and their invasions. 
Use the information you have learned to help you complete one of the attached activity sheets (one star is the simplest, 3 star is the hardest - choose which you are most comfortable completing.)

Have a look at the list of prefix words (attached resource) and read through them. See how we can turn each word into its opposite by using a prefix. We are going to have a think about what we think might happen in the end of the story. Jot down 2 sentences with your predictions, try to use the language of possibility (perhaps, maybe, possibly, might, could) 

Today we’re going to listen to the rest of the story and you are going to make up your own short swapping story - this could be based on real life or made up.

Task:  Your task is to write your own short swapping story - this could be based on a story, real life, or completely made up - you can use the attached sheet or write your story on paper.
 
Extension: Write a sentence about whether your predictions were correct or incorrect.

Today we are going to look at different tenses. The spellings of verbs change depending on whether they are written in the past or the present tense for example, walking / walked. 

You are going to look at  The Diary of a Wimpy Kid pages attached and take notes about the diary layout and features.

Task:  Your task today is to write a few sentences explaining why certain tenses are used in diary writing. 

Take notes about a diary layout and features and diary characters. Underline examples of past tense and first person.

 

 

Extension: Do you know any other diaries? Can you compare them? How are they similar/how are they different?

 

Spelling

Science  

Lesson objective: I can learn about different types of rocks.

Follow the PowerPoint to find out about all the different types of rocks.

Write a definition of what igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are (natural) and a definition for what brick, concrete and mock rock is (man made).

Complete the cut and stick activity sheet for sorting rocks, or if you don't have a printer, draw your own table and write in the different rock names to sort them. There are 3 different sheets, easier, medium or hard. Choose which you are most comfortable completing.

Today we are looking at using adverbs and adverbials. Can you remember what these are? 

Adverbs - modify verbs/tell us more about the action. If the verb is crawled, then the adverb ‘slowly’ helps us see HOW.

 
Task:  

Y3 Your task today is to add adverbs to sentences taken from ‘The day I swapped my dad for a goldfish”. You can use the sheet to support you. 

Y4: I’d like you to complete 5 of the sentences from resource A adding an adverb to the sentences, and 5 from resource B, adding an adverbial to the sentences.

 

Extension: Underline your adverbs in a coloured pencil.

Art

Research some different kinds of Anglo-Saxon jewellery and sketch a couple using pencil. Remember we use light strokes when we sketch so mistakes are easily corrected.

Today we are going to continue looking at adverbs.Year 4 you’re going to continue looking at adverbials too. Look at the sentences in the video and see if you can pick out the adverbs.

 

Task: 

Your task today is to look at the sentence examples and re write each sentence 3 times, each time changing the adverb. 

Y3: Just use the 2 adverb sheets

Y4: use the first adverb sheet at the adverbials sheet.
