Science Week

Today we carried out an experiment to see how our digestive system works.
In a food bag we added cream crackers and bananas. Then we added orange juice (which represents the stomach acid) followed by adding a little water  (saliva). We mashed up the mixture which mimics the action of our stomach walls breaking down food.  Then added the mix to a stocking representing the small intestine. As the liquid dripped through the stocking this shows the nutrients that are absorbed by the body used for growth and energy. The food that remained inside the stocking is the waste our body no longer needs.  The children enjoyed the final stage! ( representing going to the toilet)
