Finding ice in different shapes and exploring how we can melt it.

Today we found some ice that had frozen in different shaped buckets in our outdoor area. We thought it was amazing that the ice had frozen into a square and a circle. The children filled different pots with water and worked out what shape it would freeze in by looking at the bottom, we hope it gets very cold tonight so it is frozen in the morning!
We put some of the ice inside in a tray and left some outside, the children wanted to see which ice would take longer to melt, most of us thought it would be the ice inside because it was warmer!
After lunch, the ice we had left outside had not melted at all! Some of the children tried pouring water on the ice to melt it, when this didn't work they decided they needed to make it warm. They found a tea towel and wrapped it around the ice to make a blanket.
We are looking forward to seeing which ice has melted in the morning!
